Pennywise Clown Costume
The IT reboot is definitely the biggest horror film this Fall. It’s an adaptation of Stephen King’s novel It. The book and film tell the story of 7 children known as the Loser’s Club in Derry, Maine who are terrorized by a monster that appears in the form of a clown called Pennywise, played by Bill Skarsgard. It stars Jaeden Lieberher as Bill Denbrough, the leader of the Losers’ Club with Sophia Lillis, Wyatt Oleff, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Finn Wolfhard, Nicholas Hamilton, Jack Dylan Grazer and Chosen Jacobs in supporting roles. These children have to find a way to defeat the monster while dealing with bullies and life problems in the process. The film received positive reviews with critics admiring the cinematography, performances, musical score and direction. It has also set a lot of box office records and has earned over $555 million worldwide.
All of the characters were certainly appealing, but perhaps the most interesting among them is Pennywise the Dancing Clown. The character’s costume has elements from Elizabethan, Victorian, Medieval and Renaissance eras, making it look like Pennywise is older than people think. With his high waistline jacket, short pants and a dirty smile, Pennywise is definitely someone you wouldn’t want to encounter. The aim of the costume was to give Pennywise a child-like quality and to make a character that prefers to hide. The designers definitely did a great job.
The costume is also easy to pull off, so it’s something that you can easily replicate if you are looking for a Halloween costume. The silver and white clown suit may look intricate at first, but the trick to creeping everyone out with the costume is in the makeup. If you can get a temporary red hair dye or a red wed and paint your face properly, you will definitely achieve the same Pennywise effect.
Pennywise Clown Costume
The Pennywise Clown costume will not be complete without the traditional clown outfit. You can pair white or silver leggings with a ruffled, long-sleeved dress or shirt. Don’t forget to glue or attach 3 red pom-poms down the front. If you don’t have a silver dress, you can spray paint it. There are online stores that offer a complete package of the character’s costume. The package usually comes with a jumpsuit with collar and vest, Pennywise mask with attached wig and gloves.
The shoes are also very important. Get a pair of clown shoes with red fluffy balls on them. Learn Pennywise’s dance while you are at it. A pair of white gloves is also important for killer clowns, so they can do their tricks cleanly. Make sure to wear Pennywise’s gloves before going to a costume party. For a more dramatic effect, you can splatter some red paint on the gloves to make it look like you just did something gory. Of course, don’t forget the clown’s balloon. You cannot dress up as Pennywise the Clown without a red balloon. It is his ultimate tool after all. Let everyone know of your arrival by letting some red balloons floating around.
If you are planning to paint your face, make sure that you wear Pennywise’s hair. You can buy a wig with a forehead attached to it to make this easy for you. Biting into your victim is impossible without a pair of fanged teeth. The yellow color makes it look creepier. If you are not wearing a mask, you can wear these fake teeth to scare off the people you meet. The fake teeth can be custom-molded to fit you and make you look like Pennywise right away.
In case you are a creative cosplayer, you can paint your face with the clown’s colors. Aside from a rubber red nose, do not forget to get a sponge applicator, make-up sticks and white cream make-up. If you are not up for some face painting, you can just wear a mask with a blood-red facepaint, yellow eyes and teeth and a high large forehead. You can get a mask that already has the clown’s fluffy red hair attached. With this, you don’t need to worry about looking for a separate wig. Everything is already set, so you can just slip on the mask and proceed to scare off everyone.
To make your entrance grand, you can complete your Pennywise Clown costume with a colorful balloon set. You will look like the character from the 1990 mini-series if you are holding on to a balloon at the Halloween party you will attend. Allow a few balloons to float around the room. You can also wear the killer claws from the 1990 IT series. Show your killer claws to those you will meet on the road and scare them away. The original Pennywise’s face is as creepy as this year’s version. From the yellow, razor-sharp teeth to the signature creepy smile, you can wear an exact replica of the 1990 Pennywise’s face.
How to Best Achieve Your Own Pennywise Clown Costume
The key to achieving the best Pennywise clown costume is to keep everything quite monochromatic. Wear either white or silver. Put on a pair of silver leggings, silver long-sleeved shirt and black, red or white boots with red pom-poms glued to the toe of each booth. Complete your look with a pair of silver or white gloves, a red wig, red lipstick and white face paint. Draw two red lines all the way up through the eyebrows using the lipstick.
You should also bring a red balloon on a string. If you want, you can make a newspaper sailboat and use a black marker to write the name “S.S. Georgie” on the side of the boat. Act crazy and starving for children. You should also speak in a high-pitched voice. Say things in a sing-song manner. You can also dance if you want. Act the part and you will surely scare them away. The Pennywise clown costume is definitely one of the best costumes this Halloween, so prepare your stuff and get ready to look like Pennywise the Dancing Clown.
